Yasin Kayırtar was born in 1984 in Istanbul, got acquainted with music in his early ages, with the help of the “türkü”s – folk songs in Turkish which were sung in family meetings. He received training for “bağlama” – a stringed traditional instrument common for the Mediterranean, Eastern and Asian cultures, in Arif Sağ Musical Training Centre during his high school years.
He started to study physics at Trakya University and continued musical studies in a band called Düşün Sanat which he formed with his friends in the first year of the college. He also took place in a lot of concerts and performances of the band which was known as “Akıntıya Karşı” outside of the college.
As a result of living in Edirne, a city in Thrace which is mingled with music, he played with Roman musicians in Edirne.
Because of his interest in world music and his passion for pertaining to every field of music, he got acquainted with rhythm. While he was observing Mısırlı Ahmet’s music and the new identity that he brought in music, Kayırtar found himself learning to play Dhollo in 2007. As a result of living in Edirne, a city in Thrace which is mingled with music, he played with Roman musicians in Edirne. After that, He started to study in Mısırlı Ahmet rhythm’s school for a while.
He deepened his interest in soundtracks with his contribution to the soundtracks of a short movie, “Halimlerin Yüzünden” (Director: Memet Öner), “Hamle” (Director: Şükrü Özbey), “Düşümdeki Uçurtma” (Director: Gülsün Sarıoğlu) and in 2015 he composed soundtracks of another documentary “Sagalassos Ancient City”
Kayırtar is still continuing composing and playing studies on Eastern percussion and bağlama. He worked on lots of albums and the single project’s as a musician/sound engineer and producer.
Recently; He does workshops and classes that helped “ordinary” people to meet music and playing instruments. He has an electronic music project named Ritus. And also He has been working as a “ history of science” teacher for 5 years in a high school.
